Discover a time-honoured Japanese brand where traditional craftsmanship has remained unchanged for over a century. Light and refined, this predominantly menswear collection enhances the look of the distinguished and elegant gentleman. The founder of Masunaga, Gozaemon Masunaga, established his Japanese company in 1905 in Fukui, bringing in skilled craftsmen from Osaka and Tokyo with the aim of building a strong industry in the region. Masunaga is the only Japanese company capable of producing 100 per cent of the frame in-house, from the processing of raw materials through to the manufacture and finishing of the spectacles. This integrated production system enhances precision and quality. The Japanese brand combines two key materials used in eyewear: titanium and cellulose acetate. It remains true to the original designs, creating clean-lined, distinctly retro styles.
Masunaga’s philosophy is as follows: ‘We make perfect glasses. We only seek to make a profit if we can, but we do not hesitate to take risks to ensure the quality of our frames is impeccable, even if it means losing money.’ These words still form the basis of the code of conduct for employees, even 100 years after the company was founded.
